One Man Show

An artwork experiment with webcam, Camtasia, Flash MX, Photoshop and Bias Peek.

I first created a Flash project in which I created a live webcam object. I then mirrored that object in all directions so that I got 4 objects, all showing the same thing, but mirrored. I made the bottom ones a bit darker to create the liquid feel.

After that, I published the Flash swf movie as a standalone application. The only thing that application would do, when started up is operating the webcam which is the cheapest device I found, a logitech (it is about 5 years old now).

Before I started the application, I first set up Camtasia to record what happens on the screen and I started to record.

Then I started the Flash application which showed the 4 webcam windows. To get the effect you see in the video, I had to make sure that the webcam only filmed half of my body because the other half would be mirrored on the right. The funny thing was that I could see what was happening live and I just filmed the whole thing in one go.

After that, I exported the recorded screen as a QuickTime movie and then I imported that back into Flash (with a new project of course), and added the sound and the editorial text. From that Flash project, I created the end result you see here.
